Shortcut Air Fryer Donuts (vegan)
Ever since I got my air fryer, I’ve been obsessed with trying new things in it. I’ve always wanted to try making a yeasted donut (because they are my fav), but I didn’t want to fry them in a ton of oil. The air fryer gave me the perfect crispy outside with the fluffy, tender inside like a deep fried donut you would get at the bakery minus all the oil! It worked like magic! It was truly a shortcut to making donuts!
Also, I cheated a little and used store-bought biscuit dough to make these yeasted donuts and they turned out so good! It literally took me minutes to get the perfect donut! No more waiting for dough to rise and struggling to shape them (however, one of these days, I do want to make them from scratch!). This was such a time saver and you can have hot, fluffy donuts in just 10 minutes or less. If you don’t have an air fryer, you can still make these in your oven with similar results. It will just take a little more time.
I topped these shortcut air fryer donuts in a cinnamon sugar coating and a maple glaze. They were so tasty, so I made sure to include the recipe to both. If you are doing the cinnamon sugar topping, make sure to brush some coconut oil on the donuts while they are hot and then dip them in the topping. If you are doing the maple glaze, make sure the donuts are cooled before dipping them into the glaze. We topped ours with sprinkles after because my son loves rainbow sprinkles.
Shortcut Air Fryer Donuts (vegan)
Ingredients
Donuts
- 1 (16 oz) can/tube vegan large biscuits (I’ve used Annie’s and Immaculate brand, use any kind if not vegan)
- 3-4 tbsp melted coconut oil (or melted vegan butter)
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
- 1/4 cup organic cane sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
Maple Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1/2-1 tsp maple extract
- 1 tsp almond milk
Instructions
- Make the cinnamon sugar topping by combining sugar and cinnamon in a large, shallow bowl. Make the maple glaze by whisking the powdered sugar, cinnamon, maple syrup, maple extract, and milk together until thick and smooth.
- Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F. Remove biscuits from the tube and use a 1 inch round biscuit cutter (or similar size like a bottle cap) and cut holes out of the center of each biscuit.
- Brush melted coconut oil on the bottom of the air fryer basket. Place about 4 biscuits in the air fryer in a single layer, not touching each other. Cook for 4-5 minutes (mine took 5) or until golden brown. Transfer to a wire rack. Repeat process with the last 4 biscuits. You can also cook the donut holes for 3 minutes.
