Easy Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats (vegan, gluten-free, oil-free)
This easy instant pot steel cut oats is my favorite way to make steel cut oats! It’s super simple, NOT messy, and comes out perfectly every time! No more stirring and having to make sure the oats don’t bubble over the pot anymore.
Steel cut oats take longer to cook than regular rolled oats because they are less processed. They are heartier and chewier as well. Personally, I love the texture of steel cut oats! It’s comforting, filling, and so good for you too!
Although this easy instant pot steel cut oats isn’t necessarily faster to make than the stovetop, it’s completely hands free. This is why I like this method of cooking steel cut oats because I can go and do something else while it’s cooking and not have to worry it’s going to boil over.
After the oats are done cooking, make sure to let it naturally release pressure for at least 15-20 minutes. This allows the oats to absorb the extra cooking liquid. Once done, open the lid and give the oats a good stir. It might look like there is too much liquid after opening the lid, but just give it a stir and the oats will thicken up and absorb the remaining liquid.
You can add a touch of vanilla, some cinnamon, and an extra splash of your favorite non-dairy milk after it’s done too. It really brings it to the next level and the flavor is delicious. Top it with whatever toppings you like and you got yourself a nutritious and tasty breakfast! I love fresh fruit, coconut yogurt, nut butter, and some granola on top. SO GOOD!

- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup almond milk (or any non-dairy milk)
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Add oats, water, and almond milk to your instant pot. Cover with the lid and turn the valve to sealing position.
- Cook on high pressure for 4 minutes. Let it naturally release, at least for 15-20 minutes. Turn valve to venting position after it has naturally released to release any leftover steam. Open the lid and give it a stir.
- Add cinnamon and vanilla. Stir until combined. It will get thicker as it sits and cool. Serve hot and top with desired toppings like fruit, nut butter, yogurt, granola, etc. If it is too thick, add a splash of almond milk. Enjoy!
