Healthy Protein Muddy Buddies (vegan, gluten-free, oil-free, refined sugar free)

These healthy protein muddy buddies or puppy chow is so addicting and the perfect snack when that sweet craving hits. It’s a healthier version of your favorite childhood muddy buddies and high in protein. You only need 4 ingredients and less than 5 minutes to make this yummy treat.
I love that it is coated in protein powder instead of powdered sugar. It’s not overly sweet like traditional muddy buddies either. You can use your favorite protein powder too! I did half vanilla and half chocolate protein powder from Nuzest (use code: NUTSABOUTGREENS to save $$).
My favorite way to eat it is actually in a bowl with almond milk and it tastes just like Reese’s Puffs cereal. I was in heaven and so dang good. These muddy buddies did not last more than 2 days in my house. My kids love it and it’s a great way to get in some extra protein! You have got to make this ASAP!

Healthy Protein Muddy Buddies (vegan, gluten-free, oil-free, refined sugar free)

Ingredients
- 4 cups Chex cereal (I used rice Chex)
- 1/4 cup natural drippy peanut butter (or any nut/seed butter)
- 1/4 cup dairy free chocolate chips/chunks (I like HU Kitchen. Use code: NUTSABOUTGREENS)
- 2-3 scoops vanilla or chocolate protein powder (I used half vanilla half chocolate Nuzest protein powder. Use code NUTSABOUTGREENS to save $$. Link in blog post.)
Instructions
- In a big glass bowl, add the peanut butter and chocolate. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring after each increment until melted. Mine took about 1 minute and 15 seconds. Careful not to burn your chocolate.
- Pour in the Chex cereal and stir with a spoon until everything is evenly coated. Add the protein powder and stir again until evenly coated. Alternatively, you could add the chocolate covered Chex to a big container with a lid and add the protein powder and shake until combined.
- Enjoy! Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer. I LOVE it in a bowl with some almond milk!
